Final designs

The designs below show a front and reverse of a quilt cover. I think this design relates to my theme of Life Cycles. They are part of my luxury collection and the applique element would be stitched around. I prefer the second design because the colours mix well together whereas in the first the dark blue is distrcting.

Design developments

I started to work up some of my designs digitally in Illustrator. The following images show my design developments for bedding.

The first and last designs show examples of my designs for my bright coloured mid-range collection and the second photograph shows my luxury high-end collection. I really like the textural qualities of the second design as they make the design more interesting and visually appealing.

I have also started working on my final designs. Some are shown below.

Again the first and last designs are from my bright colours collection and the middle design is from my luxury design collection. I like the colour palette and complexity of the motifs in the first design. I think the layout of the second design is appropriate for bedding. The background in the third design makes it more interesting. I feel my project has been a success so far.

Journeys Project Inspiration

Throughout the project I have been inspired by numerous artists and textile interior companies. As I am designing for bedding I started looking at home ware companies such as Sanderson who have produced some beautiful designs which relate to my theme. Here are some of my designs using various media.

Another form of inspiration came from artist Victoria Purver. Her style of drawing on top of her painted designs really inspired me and I produced this developed piece.

Journeys Project

The theme of my current project is Life Cycles, in particular I have been observing the life cycles of plants and butterflies. From my initial research I produced some textural drawings that related to my theme. Then I began to look at artists such as Claude Heath and David Hockney who have inspired some of my designs. I am drawn to the fluidity of Heath's designs as they become quite abstract. Personally I prefer to create abstract drawings using ink in a continuous line as these always create a bigger impact than my detailed designs when drawing by hand. Some of my work is shown below.
